The Smothered Mutt

Welcome to 2012, and my New Year’s resolution to journal more, or at least Blog. The last time I did a really well-done family journal was in 2004 with the Waterloo Weekly. In that same vein, I am resolving to publish a weekly blog on Jeanie's Anderson Afterthoughts blog. Without trying to back-track too much, here we go…

The highlight of this week was definitely “The Smothered Mutt”! It is this quirky little hot dog joint out on Highway 160, about a half-hour east of Branson. Casey Hall and I had gone out there for an Eagle Scout Court of Honor (Josiah Enns), and stopped by the Smothered Mutt on the way back. They had 32 different specialty dogs, and funny menu items like chili in a dog bowl. Tourists and patrons tack their $1 tips to the ceiling after writing on the note – the waitress brought our bill with a few sharpies and some tacks. I ordered “The Cuban” which had ham and swiss added to the dog, with some fancy mustard and a sandwich pickle, then pressed like a Panini. Plus some onion rings – yum!

Another good moment was the Boy Scouts District Dinner for the Blazing Trails (lead on!) district. I had become the District Chairman just before last year’s District Dinner and felt embarrassed that we only had about 20 people there. It had been an unspoken goal of mine to get more people to come for the January 2012 version. Success! We had well over a hundred people there, including lots of family, local community leaders and adult scouters who don’t even attend the District Committee meetings.

For the new year, we spent time with my parents in Illinois. My sister Carma was visiting with her boys, from Las Vegas. Solomon was very patient with them, but he said at one point “Mom, it’s like having three Jerry’s!” (His brother Jerry is 6, and his cousins Jak and Braddock are 5 and 4). The boys were fun, and Gramps and Grandma Susie made it lots of fun. We had a bonfire in the woods, and cut down some trees in the woods, with the boys helping pull it down while Gramps cut.

Wish me luck on doing more of this...

Our little family is having a blast in our new home! We love Branson. The people are so friendly, the entertainment is wonderful, the schools are the best in the midwest and my husband loves his job. We have had several visitors already and look forward to many, many more.
